  1. Gender Differences: Be Willing To Read a Pink Book.

Men and women often operate on “different sheets of music.” Because of their dissimilar socialization processes, they often have different points of view on the same “reality.” This social difference between the sexes also occurs because of the double standard. Essentially, what the double standard does is hold each gender to different social expectations (at least outwardly).

Yet this double standard often gives females an advantage when it comes to surviving a breakup and thus, successfully reaching closure. Males are taught to be tough and avoid (or showing) emotions. Thus, they often turn inward and strike a tough exterior during any rough patches they may experience in their relationships. But because of this tactic, they often lag behind women in successfully reaching closure during a breakup.

On the other hand, all their lives, females are encouraged to express their emotions. IN our society, it’s just part of being a female. However, since this is the case, when it comes to enduring an emotionally difficult breakup, women may be better-prepared to deal with their emotions. After all, they have always been encouraged to express such emotions and thus have some experience doing so. Males on the other hand, may actually be novices at handling their emotions, and thus may have difficulty dealing with them during such an emotionally-charged event such as a breakup.
